According to Yoga Journal, half an hour before bed, try drink a glass of warm organic milk spiced with a half teaspoon of dried ground ginger and four or five crushed cardamom pods. Ancient Ayurveda (an Indian form of alternative medicine) teaches that cardamom or nutmeg can help calm excess Vata (or energy), and assists in nourishing the nervous system, as well as settling the digestion.

Chamomile has been used for centuries to help with sleep and stress. As tea, it can calm an upset stomach or to help with sleep.
