Orlando fashionistas like Maxine Earhart, Emily Ellyn, and Alison Walker donned their finest leopard prints and furs to enter Harriet Lake’s Cavemen Couture contest. Several guests said that they competed in this contest every year and try to improve their outfits each time. There were so many fun photo opportunities with the Science Center’s resident dinos in the Fire Room, and with glowing, frozen bars in the Ice Room.
Local restaurants showed their support for Orlando’s favorite educational museum, donating food and drinks so that all of the night’s proceeds could go directly to Science Center programs. Orlando Brewing Company served a delicious organic Grateful Pumpkin Ale. Hopped up with Magnum & Fuggles, it had an earthy and herbal hop profile, accented by ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and pumpkin pie spice. Maxine’s on Shine created custom cocktails for the evening. Everyone was raving about Maxine’s creamy Prehistoric Pumpkin Punch, combining Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Pumpkin Spice Liqueur, Orange Juice, Sour Mix, and a splash of Sprite.
Cave Inn BBQ from Winter Garden served some delicious Stegosaurus Shreds (pulled pork) and Triassic Pasta (macaroni and cheese). And the always-exciting Puff ‘n Stuff Catering company brought and incredible Scallop Coconut Ceviche that kept guests coming back for seconds.
Gigi’s Cupcakes provided selections from their fall cupcake collection, including pumpkin white chocolate, cookies and cream, and red velvet cupcakes. Icy blue rock candy topping made them fit right in at the Ice bar.
Highlights of the evening included a raffle, where one lucky guest won a 50 inch Samsung Smart TV, and a silent auction of amazing donated prizes including a weeklong safari in South Africa! This year’s Neanderthal Ball truly lived up to its reputation as one of Orlando’s most fun and exciting events. The next Neanderthall Ball is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2014, from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. We’re already planning our costumes for next year, and can’t wait to see you there!
