Library Alehouse features Farmer’s Market Fair Holiday Beer-pairing dinner hosted by Singular City, December 15, 2013, and exclusive beer and wine pairing dinner on December 16, 2013, with Argentinian winemaker, Susana Balbo, and Epic Brewing of Salt Lake City.
Library Alehouse continues to make beer program history with an exclusive wine and beer pairing dinner featuring winemaker Susana Balbo, and Epic Brewing Company, pairing their wares with Executive Chef Tom Hugenberger’s food, as well as with each other, December 16, 2013 at 7:30 PM. Attendance is limited to 40 in the heated, enclosed back garden patio.
The dinner also combines “old world, internationally experienced” Argentine winemaker Susana Balbo, and cutting edge “domestic” with Epic Brewing of Salt Lake City. Chef Tom Hugenberger and Certified Cicerone™ Alex P. Davis have created the original menu to highlight each dish and spirit combination rather than make it Beer Versus Wine. Known to many as the “Queen of Torrontes” or the “Evita of Wine”, Susana Balbo is reputed throughout Argentina and the world for her incredible winemaking skill, experience, and passion. Since she earned her enology degree in 1981, Susana has probably produced a wider variety of wines than any other winemaker in Argentina. She has made wine in Australia, California, Chile, France, Italy, South Africa, and Spain, and she spends a month each year in a different wine region of the world studying with local winemakers and growers.
David Cole, along with California native, Peter Erickson, founders and co-owners of Epic Brewing Company, started an international aquaculture company in Utah in 1992. In 2008, Utah law changed, allowing these two entrepreneurs to pursue their longtime dream of opening a strong beer microbrewery, like those they frequented in the Golden State. Together, they have teamed with veteran Brewmaster Kevin Crompton, (formerly Bohemian Brewery). Crompton has been brewing for more than 20 years (since 1994) an. Admittedly, The Epic team has a strong belief in doing everything “all out.”
Week-end Beer-Paired Holiday Dinner at Library Alehouse
Singular magazine hosts a festive holiday, 3-course, gourmet dinner prepared by Chef/Owner Tom Hugenberger, paired with a variety of special beers selected by Certified Cicerone Alex P. Davis on Sunday, December 15, 5 p.m. in the Library Alehouse heated garden patio. Each course will be served with a 6 oz. craft beer, introduced by Alex. Tom’s menu, prepared with farmers’ market ingredients, has been conceived specifically for this event.
Amuse-Bouche: Chilled Cucumber Soup
1st Course: Beet Terrine with arugula, goat cheese, vinaigrette
2nd Course: Seared Skuna Salmon served over Crab-Smashed Potatoes, or a veggie option of Quinoa-Filled Roasted Squash mixed with dried fruit, toasted nuts, agave and toasted coriander, served over curried squash puree
3rd Course: Apple Tarte Tatin

Since it opened in 1995 Library Alehouse is a true public house, dedicated to serving the best the beer world has to offer, both on tap and in bottle, under the direction of Certified Cicerone™ and General Manager Alex P. Davis. Assuming ownership in 2012, Chef Tom Hugenberger has created a menu of progressive, gastropub fare, incorporating his solid French culinary background, nuanced by his Asian techniques. Library Alehouse is open 11:30am-Midnight Monday through Saturday, and opens for Sunday Brunch at 10:30am.
