This week, our recipe development team received a sample of Crown Royal’s new Maple flavored whisky. The arrival of this particular product brought back fond college memories for some, as Crown was the go-to brand for ‘lux status’ among their colleagues. Left to open in a glass over ice for a few minutes, this new cocktail spirit presented notes of natural maple syrup on the nose and palate, with definite flavors of toasted hazelnut on the finish. Hints of brown sugar and smoky caramel add dimension, and reminded us of warm fall spices.
We would serve this whisky on its own, in cocktails, or as a boozy sauce over your next bread pudding.
Ginger Maple Pear Martini
- 3 oz. Crown Royal Black Blended Whisky
- 1/4 oz. maple syrup
- 1/4 oz. simple syrup
- ½ ripe asian pear, cut into small pieces
- Barritts Ginger Beer
- Ice
Muddle the pear in the bottom of a shaker with the maple syrup. Pour in the Maple Crown Royal, and shake all of the above and strain into martini glass; garnish with a thin slice of pear, cut thru the center, float on top of the martini.
Crown Royal Black Blended Whisky sells for approximately $30 at most retailers, but can be found at Amazon for around $24.00 on sale.
