If you’ve been to Chez Panisse, La Brea, Acme, or many of the bakeries across the country, you’ve benefited from the training and expertise at the San Francisco Baking Institute. And now they’re asking for our help.
The San Francisco Baking Institute, founded in 1996 by Michael Suas, was shut down on December 21st due to a state change in the license renewal process. As how long this will take is unknown, students and staff are unable to work or study, and at this rate the school will be forced to close. To help, they’ve set up a petition, and as of writing this seven thousand signatures were still needed. We at Crave Local want to keep on seeing beautiful bread coming from this school, and support signing the petition and sending words of encouragement to the SFBI team.
You can sign the petition here. SFBI is also encouraging that letters of support be sent directly to:
Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education
2535 Capitol Oaks Drive, Suite 400
Sacramento, CA 95833
Attn. Louman Cheung
Thank you, Eater San Francisco, for the heads up! We at Crave Local support the SFBI in their continued education of bakers.
