Beginning this month, Portland’s unique urban winery, SE Wine Collective, which Imbibe Magazine selected as their“2013 Wine Bar of the Year”, transforms into a supper club once a month. The “club” will provide guests the chance to take a seat next to friends or strangers and enjoy a set, multi-course dinner prepared by top established and up and coming Portland chefs. Each dinner will feature wines from both the SE Wine Collective’s four resident wineries Vincent Wine Company, Bow & Arrow Wines, Helioterra Wines and Division Winemaking Company and wines from around the world that inspire the Collective winemakers.
Taking the supper club concept to the next level, the series will feature a different chef at each dinner and offer an intimate and interactive dining experience at approachable price points. Bar Avignon will kick off the series on Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. with a family style dinner for $60. Other participating restaurants include secret seafood standout Roe, Portland’s leading ramen restaurant Boke Bowl, James Beard award winning chef Vitaly Paley’s Paley’s Place, Imperial and Portland Penny Diner and his iron chef winning team Ben Bettinger and Patrick McKee along with bartender Brandon Wise, The Oregonian’s 2012 Restaurant of the Year and James Beard Rising Star Little Bird and James Beard nominated chef Cathy Whims and her acclaimed restaurant, Nostrana.
“This series is exciting because it challenges chefs and wineries to think beyond what we do day to day,” says SE Wine Collective owner Thomas Monroe. “The chefs and restaurants will be challenged to leave their comfort zone and create a multi-course dinner in a new space. Our wineries then have the challenge of pairing our wines with dishes and types of cuisine we haven’t worked with before. Our guests will be part of the ride with us, experiencing how these two elements come together to create a unique social dining experience.”
Those interested in assuring access to some of the most coveted dinners in the series can take advantage of the SE Wine Collective’s innovative series memberships. The Collective Supper Club membership is offered at two levels; a full season membership, only four available, for $750 per person for 13 dinners (20 percent savings on each dinner) or a four pack membership for $235 (10 percent savings on each dinner). As an added feature, each membership will include an exclusive Collective Supper Club meal during the 2013 harvest and each dinner included in the membership has limited transferability, making them the perfect gift for friends, clients and family members. Limited individual dinner tickets can also be purchased at SE Wine Collective or by calling 503-208-2061.
