Located in Miami, Florida’s Brickell financial district, OTC {Over the Counter}, father-son team John and Michael Sullivan have set out to achieve just this with their new, casual dining destination. After less than one year, they’re well on their way to success.
Deviating from the trend of pricey, upscale eateries opening weekly in the area, OTC seems to have struck a chord with its rustic cuisine, Indie music and ‘industrial meets farmhouse’ decor.
Dining at OTC is an experience that will engage all of your senses. Entering through their outdoor seating area, the tavern has a welcoming, casual feel, with a chalkboard sign announcing their daily specials, with minimalistic iron and wood dining tables in the main space. Chandeliers are made from recycled metal salvage, and reclaimed wood paneling acts as a decorative fascia for the bar, kitchen doors, and serving stations. Orders are placed over a bar crafted from a 2,000 year-old Florida cypress tree.
The menu is decidedly unlike any bar food you’ve seen recently. All dishes are made from scratch using whole food ingredients, prepared to order and each with a fresh, tasty twist. Instead of traditional gastropub fare like burgers and fried chicken, you’ll find pan-seared tuna sliders with wasabi mayo and eel sauce, as well as goat cheese and bacon jam grilled cheese.
For those seeking out healthy dining options, you won’t leave hungry, as OTC serves up fresh dishes like their Fall Vegetable Platter of grilled eggplant, roasted mushrooms, roasted red pepper, and brussel sprouts in a roasted tomato broth paired with a simple pan-seared tuna or their Tuesday fish tacos, a favorite with local diners.
With dishes ranging from $5 to $14, OTC is moderately priced for the quality fresh food offered. Find weekly specials like bottomless mimosas for Saturday and Sunday brunch, $1 oysters on Friday and $2 off all craft beers during happy hour Monday to Friday.
Be prepared to wait for a table if you go during their weekend brunch-OTC is becoming increasingly popular, so we recommend getting there early.
OTC’s food menu doesn’t change, but the craft beer list does, as do the daily specials. Regular specials include:
- Mac ‘n Cheese Mondays
- Taco Tuesdays
- Wing It Wednesdays
- Thirsty Thursdays
- Oyster Fridays
Our Healthy Diner Recommendations:
For lunch or dinner dining, select and share Fall Roasted Vegetables and the pan-seared tuna to get a meal filled with protein and nutrients that will leave your taste buds and stomach feeling satiated.
For brunch dining, select the build-your-own omelet option, asking for any of their current fresh vegetables as your additions. Top it off with salsa to keep the flavor high without adding unhealthy fat or calories.
