We were excited to hear that a new brewery opened its doors in Central Florida this October so we had to head up the road to Deland, Florida for a visit.
Persimmon Hollow is a brewery and tasting room. Like many in this category, they have an inviting, and open space for socializing with neighbors and quaffing tasty beer. PH puts a funky twist on the tasting room concept, with mismatched furniture as a nod to the abundance of antique stores in the community. We really felt like there was a community vibe here. Kids are welcome, and it really reminds us of the beer gardens in smaller Belgian towns where they serve as community meeting spaces.
We enjoyed several of their offerings. Our favorites included the Butt Stuff BBQ Brown ale, a slightly smokey and rich brown ale. Our other top ranked beer was the Beach Hippie IPA which is a nicely balanced IPA with a clean, bitter ‘spank-to-the-chops’ hop bite. Along with their own beer on draft, they have rotating guest beers as well. What’s not to like about this place? The day we were there, a food truck was just down the alley, and a few venders were also present, selling interesting and useful wares. You can also duck into shops and check out the antique building materials, knickknacks, collectibles, and furniture.
To make matters even BETTER, we discovered some of the best Mexican food in Central Florida. EL Taco Loco serves up the best Mexican foodstuffs we’ve had East of Tucson. We talked to the owner, his family owns restaurants in Southern California, Phoenix, and Deland. These folks serve up the real thing. Be warned, it is cash only, so hit the ATM on the way over, you’ll be glad you did.
So we hope you get a chance to check out Persimmon Hollow, our Brewery of the Month. Cheers!
Persimmon Hollow is located at 111 W Georgia Ave. DeLand, FL 32720.
