As a child, I was lucky enough to spend my childhood in the Italian countryside, where my family raised their own vegetables, chickens, rabbits, goats, an occasional pig, baked their own bread, and made their own cheese. This way of life was all taken for granted, until I returned to Italy a decade and a half later, in my late 20’s.
This month-long visit with my grandparents had a profound impact on my appreciation for the way of life my family left behind. My grandmother’s amazing cooking, awakened a passion for food. It suddenly made perfect sense why half the town dropped by for a visit around lunchtime.
My mother continued the tradition in America. She wowed my friends with cocoa dusted homemade pasta in a light cream sauce with mushrooms and pancetta, and her pan-fried rabbit in olive oil garlic and rosemary-a treat most Americans have never experienced.
I suppose it’s only natural that I should attempt to continue the tradition, as food and wine are a way of life in my family, my life, and my culture. Whether seeking amazing ingredients and wines for meals at home, or exploring a local eatery-fresh ingredients and a thoughtful method of preparation will always stand out to impress.
I look forward to eating with you, drinking with you, and sharing my ongoing journey of food.
