Not only is January 1st New Years Day, in the cocktail world, it’s also National Bloody Mary Day. Fernand Petiot is often credited as the inventor of the drink, beginning in Paris as equal parts tomato juice and vodka back in the 1920’s. Upon his return to the US, Petiot decided to ‘kick things up a notch’, and spiced up the concoction with lemon juice, pepper, and Tabasco, and the rest, as they say, is cocktail history.
This classic “hair of the dog” cocktail has become a staple in brunch menus and as a hangover remedy over the years, and it’s easy to see why: the Bloody Mary is hearty, savory and spicy. - 4 blanched yellow tomatoes

- 1 tsp Worcestershire
- 2 dashes tabasco
- 1 pinch horseradish
- 5 tsp minced garlic
- 1 pinch each – smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt & pepper
Blend until smooth. Drink responsibly!
To serve:
- Rim glass with togarashi chili powder/salt blend
- Fill glass with ice
- 1.5 oz vodka
- Top with mary mix from above

BLOODY MARY’S WITH A FRUITY TWIST


Recipe:
- 2 oz Belvedere Bloody Mary Vodka
- 5-6 drops Yellow Tomato Bitters
- 3-4 drops Green Tabasco
- 3 oz Sweetened Celery Water
- 1 oz Meyer Lemon Juice
- Shake all ingredients and pour over rocks in a highball glass. Garnish with celery sprig and Smoked Paprika Sprinkle.
After undergoing a $5 million transformation last year, the newly restyled W San Diego has once again set the bar high with their Blackberry Mary, a muddled mix of Stoli Hot Vodka, tomato-based bloody mix, lime juice, lemon juice, chili syrup, dash of salt and pepper and garnished with picked bacon slice, jalapeño slices, cucumber round slice and blackberries.
Blackberry Mary Recipe:
- 4-5 Blackberries Dropped in Mixing Glass
- 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
- 1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
- 1/2 oz. Chili Syrup
