Did you know that Blueberries contain anthocyanins, which give them their blue hue, attack cancer-causing free radicals and can even block or reduce the growth of tumor cells, according to a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign study. Eating just a half-cup a day in a smoothie or on a salad is all you need.
Almonds also are great for the skin and brain! They contain minerals like potassium, folic acid, protein, monosaturated fats and vitamin E. Eating more almonds may reduce your chances of heart disease.
According to Dr. Oz, a regular intake of coconut oil can help your body resist both viruses and bacteria that can cause illness. Even more, it also can help to fight off yeast, fungus and candida.
Worth noting, Coconut oil can also positively affect our hormones for thyroid and blood-sugar control. Research has shown that people who take coconut oil also may have improvements in balancing blood sugar, since coconut can help improve insulin use within the body.
Parsley isn’t exactly an ingredient many of us consider for more than a garnish on our plates, but according to World’s Healthiest Foods, parsley is considered to be a rich source of anti-oxidants, vitamin C, and vitamin K, and beta-carotene. Ginger is great for digestion, and adds a great spicy kick to morning breakfast smoothies.
