Not only is the University of Washington nearly back in session, but Husky Stadium is almost finished with construction – and with this reopening Trophy Cupcakes is opening a new store at the stadium, and made UW cupcakes to celebrate. As Crave Local’s resident Husky, I was put to the test of finding out if these cupcakes had enough school spirit.
I actually tried out two of their cupcakes – the Purple and Gold cupcakes, which are Husky purple Vanilla Vanilla cupcakes topped with gold buttercream, purple nonpareils, and a football; and the Blueberry Pie cupcake, their seasonal cupcake for August. The Purple and Gold cupcakes were so purple as to be almost black in photographs. They’re definitely Trophy Cupcakes, with that distinctive hi hat frosting top and soft vanilla cake. If you’re a fan of the classics and love frosting, you can’t go wrong.
While I may be a loyal Husky, I was far more excited for the Blueberry Pie cupcake. Stuffed full of sweet blueberry pie filling with a hidden round of pie crust at the base, this dainty vanilla cake really should be served with a spoon – and more blueberries. In fact, if they could make it into a sundae, I’d be there every game day. (If they open an ice cream stand in the Stadium, this needs to happen.)
With the stadium reopening to the public on August 31st, soon we’ll be able to have our football at home again – and our cupcakes. Whether you decide to show off your team spirit or just grab something delicious, you know it will be a great time.
