Just because it’s no longer Earth Day doesn’t mean you can’t have great compostable picnic gear. Not only is it good for the environment compared to traditional paper plates and plastic cutlery, but it’s less mess to deal with afterwards by bringing reusable plates and forks.
Repurpose is only selling three awesome items right now: clear cold cups, insulated cups, and their cutlery sets. The cold cups are BPA free and use soy-based inks, so they’re a lot safer for those with sensitivities in addition to just being eco-friendly. Repurpose’s cutlery is also more traditional looking than WorldCentric’s, if that’s something you’re looking for in your picnic supplies. With this heat we aren’t playing with the hot cups yet, but at $4.99 for a dozen insulated cups and lids, we’ll be using these once it’s tea and coffee season again.
WorldCentric, though, has a huge selection – we love their 8” straws, which are a crazy steal at $1.71 for 100, and you can get almost everything, from plates to delicate little souffle cups that would be great for an ice cream party. Their plates are basic but sturdy, even tolerating that huge, delicious piece of Copper River salmon without breaking or bending. Even better, they’re working towards a zero carbon footprint.
There is one downside to these plates and cups, though: they’re not incredibly colorful. The ink is green, rarely black, and most of the plates and cups are brown. (WorldCentric does offers custom printing options, though, and their rep mentioned making fancier plate styles for weddings in the past.) If you still need that pop of color at your picnic or party, just let the food do the talking. Hit the farmer’s market, pick up some fresh fruit, and have the best, fully edible decorations ever to go with your awesome eco-friendly picnic.
