Whether you are headed out to tailgate or simply want to savor the crisp notes of the season from the comfort of your patio chaise, we’ve discovered three of the best beers to help spice up your fall beverage enjoyment.
Redhook Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter
A Seattle born brewery, Redhook is now a coast to coast favorite anchored by its popular benchmark ESB. This season’s line-up includes the note-worthy Redhook Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter. Every autumn deserves a good pumpkin offering and Redhook’s leads the category with a robust, full-bodied beer.
The chestnut brown color is derived from a mix of pureed pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and a dose of maple syrup added during the fermentation process. A rich, smooth, somewhat toffee-like flavor fully characteristic of the season is the end result. A bit light for a porter but a delightful way to transition your taste buds to full-on-autumn bliss.
Innis & Gunn Scottish Porter
Headquartered in Scotland, Innis & Gunn is best known for oak-aging their beers and pioneering the Oakerator®, an oak peculator system that works in a similar fashion as a coffee peculator. The result is a unique marriage of science and hops.
Dark brown with a pale tan head, Innis & Gunn Scottish Porter is more kin to a Scottish ale than a porter, but its smooth, sweet malt start and finish will warm up any palette. Caramel, molasses and chocolate with a trace of whisky oak mesh well to deliver a medium-body beer perfect for enjoying a relaxing moment fireside at the end of a cool fall day.
Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. FestBier
Operating from a state-of-the-art brewery in San Jose, California, Gordon Biersch creates fresh, authentic-style German beers. As every great beer needs a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant
Gordon Biersh FestBier celebrates fall and the flavor profiles of beers served at the modern day Oktoberfest with the bitterness of a pilsner, but the body of a Marzen. This robust blend makes FestBier an excellent companion for grilled meats, sausage and Bavarian pretzels.
A great seasonal brew also deserves an equally distinctive glass to enhance the experience. For the ultimate pour, the Bottega BVO3 Crystal Glass (pictured above) provides an exceptional vessel for tasting. If you think the glass doesn’t make the difference, you’ll quickly revise your line of thought after savoring your first swig. All of the season beers we’ve featured are decent straight from the bottle, but further release their potential for excellence when served in high-performance style.
