It will be a blizzard at City Winery with beautiful bottles of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, and more for wine lovers on March 7! After a string of sell-out events in Seattle, New York, and San Francisco, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA) is heading to the Midwest with sixty five Oregon producers ready to snow Chicago wine lovers. Pinot in the Windy City takes place March 7, 2013 at Chicago’s state-of-the-art City Winery, with a trade and public tasting commencing on the same day.
The city’s only urban cellar boasts event space, live music, fine dining, and a fully operation winemaking facility. City Winery originated in New York, which played host to the WVWA via a similar event last year. Some 65 Oregon wineries will be on hand, with owners or winemakers telling the inside story of their world renown craft. While Pinot Noir will take center stage, wineries will showcase Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Riesling, as well as some lesser-known varietals.
Once home to just a few pioneering winegrowers, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is now home to over 300 producers, producing some of the most celebrated wines on the planet. “What people forget is that it’s about much more than the wine,” said Sue Horstmann, Executive Director of the WVWA. “The interesting characters behind the label are equally as intriguing as the top notch wines in the bottle. The event sets wine and winemaker beside one another, making way for the great backstory behind every wine.”
City Winery will host a Willamette Valley winemaker’s dinner on the eve of the event as well, showcasing three tremendous Oregon producers and the creative people behind their success. Dinner attendees will be registered into a drawing for a Wine Country getaway sponsored by American Airlines and the Allison Inn, Oregon wine country’s premier destination resort. The grand prize winner will be awarded round-trip airfare for two, two nights at the Allison, private wine tastings, and an assortment of resort-related credits, from spa treatment to dining.
