This past month we had the opportunity to try a new direct ship fresh meal program from HelloFresh. As a start up, we work long hours. Even though cooking is what we do for a living, the desire to have a sit down dinner at home can sometimes conflict with sheer exhaustion.
Whether you’re a working mom, a single professional, a stay at home dad, or a new college graduate just now finding your way around the kitchen, the hardest part of meal time can be that looming question: “What is for dinner?” Add to that starving children, picky, non-vegetable eating spouses, and (surprise!) pop in dinner guests, and it can be overwhelmingly tempting to pick up the phone and call for takeout.
As a foodie (and now food editor and recipe developer), I can honestly say, I’ve spent many of my early years watching cooking shows. The challenge herein is this: when the show is done, where is YOUR dinner? Wine and cheese do not a dinner make, and implementing what cooking shows try to teach can be a daunting task for the weekday warrior.
Thanks to their HelloFresh’s seasonal ingredients, and nutritionist and Michelin chef created meals, we were more than pleasantly surprised at the easy recipes arrived. This was a far cry from the frozen Schwan’s dinners I saw my neighbors order when I was a child. These were meals that would make any mother proud.

What is HelloFresh?
Originally a doorstep delivery food service based in Sweden, HelloFresh allows consumers to eat fresh, healthy meals at home, without the headache of trying to figure out what to make for dinner. Shipping once to twice a week, you can receive meat, poultry, and seafood selections, or a vegetarian box, nearly entirely prepped and ready to cook. These boxes are delivered well chilled, and will keep for up to a week in your refrigerator. Delivery is free, and included in the cost of the meal.
Priced at $59 and $69 per 3 meal box (6 servings), this might sound like a lot, but for the ease and convenience of use, the freshness of ingredients, and the inspirational recipes that we personally know we’ll be making again, HelloFresh is a lesson in fun, healthy cooking that can satisfy any diet. It also makes the perfect gift for someone that appreciates healthy, delicious food, and deserves a break from cooking.
