Cachaca, a native Brazilian spirit made from freshly crushed sugarcane juice, is a great alternative for citrus based cocktails. After extraction, the juice is fermented, a nd aged in wooden barrels (casks), creating create unique and exceptional blends of this Latin flavored spirit.
We’ve tried a number of brands over the years, and recently had the opportunity to sample a newer premium brand, Soul Cachaca.
Imported exclusively by Premier Spirits, Soul Cachaca is a favorite spirit used in the national drink of Brazil, the Caipirinha. Soul’s unique smoothness has created a range of new and upcoming drinks such cocktails include Soul Tea, the Soul-a-Rita, Copacabana Cosmo and others.
An award winning cocktail spirit, Soul Cachaca is more mild and versatile than some other cachacas on the market. It’s tasting notes are very neutral, with hints of melon and lime zest, toasted sugar, and pineapple. The palate is light and low on heat, making this an easy to drink, easy to blend spirit.
The recipe team at Crave Local put together a few refreshing cachaca based cocktails for you to try at home this summer.
Grapefruit Caipirinha
- 8 to 10 ice cubes, plus ice for shaker
- 2 ounces cachaca
- 2 1/2 teaspoons simple syrup
- 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1/4 of a grapefruit, pithe and peel removed
- 1/2 cup (4 ounces) Sparkling water
- 1/2 lime wheel
Fill 10-ounce Collins or highball glass with ice. Place grapefruit and simple syrup into shaker, muddle together. Add ice, and all ingredients expect for sparkling water and lime into shaker. Shake for 30 seconds, pour over ice into glass. Garnish with sparkling water and lime wheel.
Each little kiwi fruit contains more than 5 times the Vitamin C than in an orange, and it helps lower the risk of blood clots and reduces the amount of fats in the blood.
The Down Under Cocktail
- 3 tablespoons sparkling water
- 1 ½ shots Cachaça
- 3 Tbsp Kiwi Puree (Perfect Puree or other brand)
- 1 tsp Sugar
- Juice of ½ Lime
- Mint sprig
- Kiwi wheel
Fill 10-ounce Collins or highball glass with ice. Add all ingredients, and stir with a swizzle spoon 8 times. Garnish with a mint sprig and kiwi wheel.
- 1 lime, quartered
- 2 teaspoons Truvia (or granulated sugar)
- 3 large basil leaves
- 2 ounces watermelon puree
- 2 ounces cachaca
- 1 ounce pomegranate juice
Muddle lime, stevia or sugar, and basil. Add watermelon puree, pomegranate juice and cachaca. Shake with ice and pour into glass.
